With over 35 years of industry experience, James brings proven expertise in product design, quality management, and custom workforce enhancement solutions to his role as a Regional Growth Manager. He started with GENEDGE in September of 2015 and operates from a satellite office located in the Virginia Tech Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) in Blacksburg, Virginia. James earned his BS in Management and Leadership from Bluefield College, and has considerable education in Manufacturing Technology with a focus in Electronics from East Carolina University. He is certified through the Siemens Technik Akademie of Berlin, Germany to teach the Siemens Mechatronics Systems Certification Program, and to assess program graduates. Prior to joining GENEDGE, he served as Workforce Development Program Manager at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke. Outside of GENEDGE, James has membership affiliations with various regional organizations including chambers of commerce, city planning commissions, and higher education boards.

Sam Wolford is a Regional Growth Manager in the southwest Virginia area and also manages the statewide Trade Adjustment Assistance for Firms (TAAF) program through a partnership between GENEDGE, the Mid-Atlantic Trade Adjustment Assistance Center (MATAAC), and the Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission. With over 23 years of experience, Sam has expertise in leading, mentoring, developing, managing, and implementing solutions in engineering, technologies, emergency operations, workforce development, and project management. Sam has a personal narrative of strategic innovation, and creative collaboration, leading to successful program management, and delivery. Primarily focusing on government-based implementations, he has tackled complex challenges and provided award winning programmatic solutions. Prior to joining GENEDGE, he supported Tazewell County by leading the operation of Public Safety, Technology, Workforce Development, and by providing special project coordination across various governmental disciplines. Tazewell County received two Governor’s Technology Awards for Innovative Use of Technology in Economic Development and in Government through Sam’s program work during his time there. Sam holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Bluefield State College School of Engineering Technology & Computer Science and is a Nationally Certified Workforce Development Professional. Outside of GENEDGE, Sam is actively involved in non-profit organizations as a member of boards of directors and advisory boards for both educational institutions and service organizations.

John Hagwood is a Regional Growth Manager supporting GENEDGE engagements with a primary focus on clients in southside Virginia region. As Regional Growth Manager, John assists the southside region of manufacturing and industry with their wants, needs and strategic goals. John brings over 20 years of experience in manufacturing mostly from the IBM Corporation. While at IBM’s System and Technology Group, he focused on the design, development, and manufacture of semiconductor chips for a variety of applications. His work experience includes market research, business plan development, project management, statistical data analysis, and continuous improvement. John earned his BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Old Dominion University, and an MBA focused in Strategy and Operations from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is based in Martinsville and joined GENEDGE in January 2017.

Aimee McCarthy is a Regional Growth Manager for the Central Virginia area that includes the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area, Greater Fredericksburg Region, the Northern Neck, and the Interstate 95 corridor South to Emporia. In 2006, her first GENEDGE role was the East Region Business Development Manager and later accepted the position of Marketing Director in 2014. During her time in these roles, Aimee established strong relationships with companies and organizations throughout Virginia, led successful projects and marketing campaigns, and helped establish the marketing team into a self-managing department. In her new role as a Regional Growth Manager, Aimee will work to build new and strengthen existing relationships in the Central Virginia region. She will also work directly with manufacturing and industrial companies to help them assess needs for growth and identify ways to create a positive impact for the client, the region, and the Commonwealth. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, an MBA from the University of Richmond, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a longtime member of the Virginia Economic Developers Association and serves on the Board of the Virginia SPQA.

Steve Holcomb joined the GENEDGE team in March 2018 as Hampton Roads Regional Growth Manager based in Newport News. He is responsible for supporting industrial development in the region by building and maintaining relationships with local and regional economic developers, industrial associations, the Port of Virginia, and the local industrial and technology client base in pursuit of their strategic goals, and manage projects toward successful completion. Steve holds a BS in Ocean Engineering with emphasis on deep ocean systems from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Steve is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Jonah in the Theory of Constraints Thinking Process. While working at Huntington Ingalls – Newport News Shipbuilding, he received two Excellence in Action Awards, one leading a successful project management implementation in submarine construction and the other for being a leader for improved velocity, synchronization and cost in ship construction. Steve was also selected to serve as a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Examiner. He has helped dozens of organizations identify and address their greatest challenges resulting in millions of dollars of bottom-line impact.

His role includes development of and direction for GENEDGE Regional Growth Managers, and management of significant statewide and regional growth opportunities for targeted industrial companies and clusters. He has worked with GENEDGE for total of 11 years as a third-party consultant as well as a GENEDGE Engagement Manager providing consulting, program management and service development. Dean holds a BS in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research from Virginia Tech. He is certified in the following: NIST MEP LEAN Instructor in Lean Principles, Value Stream Mapping and Lean Supply Chain Logistics, and Balanced Scorecard Practitioner by the Balanced Scorecard Institute. He is a Jonah in the Theory of Constraints, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (certified by Virginia Tech and the ASQ); Master Black Belt and Senior LSS Instructor United States Marine Corps.

Since August 2019, Steve Dalton has served as a Regional Growth Manager based from GENEDGE’s satellite office at Blue Ridge Community College. Steve’s related work experience of over 30 years [business coaching, product management, product development, innovation, business development and relationship management] has prepared him well for his role at GENEDGE. As Regional Growth Manager for the Shenandoah Valley and Central Virginia region, Steve will assist his client base of manufacturing and industry with their wants, needs and strategic goals. Responsibilities include working with clients to help define appropriate scopes of work and provide contracted services directly with GENEDGE project managers, subject matter experts or specific partners. Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Averett University of Danville and an MBA from Radford University. Certifications and affiliations include ACC Leadership/Business Coach ICF (International Coaching Federation), ITIL certification, and Chamber of Commerce Import / Export certification.
