Dante Valve Case Study

Dante Valve operates a leading comprehensive manufacturing, distribution, and VR-certified repair facility for valves and related products serving industrial and military markets, including the U.S. Navy.

Located in Norfolk, VA, Dante Valve manufactures military specification Danco pressure relief valves installed across all U.S. Navy vessels, including Nimitz and Ford class aircraft carriers. The company also supplies Kunkle relief valves and TRAC regulating valves, fittings, and flanges, and provides CNC machining services. In addition to its Norfolk location, Dante Valve operates two additional U.S. sites and employs over 60 full-time staff.

From mission-critical military uses to rugged commercial and industrial applications, Dante Valve has built a long-standing reputation for engineering excellence and customer-focused service.

Dante Valve’s leadership recognized the importance of strengthening workplace safety and efficiency while ensuring compliance with OSHA standards. The company wanted to make measurable progress in reducing injury risk, enhancing workforce training, and improving overall productivity—all within an accelerated timeframe.

GENEDGE partnered with Dante Valve’s leadership team to conduct a comprehensive assessment of facilities, processes, and safety policies. Based on this evaluation, GENEDGE designed and implemented a customized safety program aligned with Dante Valve’s operational goals and culture.

The engagement included the development of key safety policies, workforce training, creation of a dedicated safety team, and the implementation of safety incident investigations. Lean/5S principles were integrated to support process flow and visual workplace improvements.

Following the six-month implementation, GENEDGE conducted a program evaluation at Dante Valve’s Norfolk facility. The improvements were evident: marked aisles, consistent PPE usage, and streamlined workflows reflected a significant culture shift toward proactive safety practices. Leadership’s visible commitment to safety has set a strong foundation for continued progress.

To sustain and build upon this success, GENEDGE recommended several next-step initiatives, including:

  • Developing 2026 safety program goals and corresponding action plans, incorporating both proactive and reactive metrics (e.g., safety training completion rates, audit scores, TRIR, and lost-time injury rates).
  • Conducting routine facility safety audits across all sites.
  • Implementing a change control process for new equipment, products, or procedures that could affect safety or quality.
  • Establishing a safety incentive program to encourage engagement and continuous improvement.
  • Introducing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) to evaluate procedures for improvements in safety, quality, and efficiency.

To date, the collaboration has resulted in one new job, 64 retained jobs, and measurable improvements in workplace safety and efficiency (culture impact).

“The partnership with GENEDGE has been instrumental in helping us improve our policies, processes, and workforce safety. It’s hard to put a price tag on the importance of safety for our employees and our company.”
